Does anyone remember Broomfields Bakeries? They had several shops during the1930`s through to the 1950`s. My mum used to work in one shop in Croydon near the flyover and not far from Fairfield Halls, she bought the lovely bread home from there. There was another shop in Mayo Road also London Road, there were several others but can`t remember where they were.

I was born in Davidson Road in 1942 and went to Davidson Road School. I remember we had blackboards and chalk to start with. We had music lessons and all learnt to play an instrument and also to read simple music (can't do that any more). There was a fire in the school while I was in the infants - can anyone remember it? I attended Belmont School from Nursery right through to Senior. My name was Gill Stokes (now McQuaid), I was born in 1939 and lived at 43 Headcorn Road, Thornton Heath. I know the school has been closed for years but it is great to know that there is still someone out there who remembers it. I use to live along Epsom Lane North Known as the switchback to locals because of the dips up and down in the road, my father bought South Tadworth along there , where I grew up from 1940 to 1957 when I got married.
I worked in Tattenham Corner Restaurant as Manageress and The Shack as snack bar was called by locals.

I was born in Croydon in 1954 and lived in Addiscombe all my life. I went to Woodside School and also Ashburton Secondary Modern in Shirley Road. Both Addiscombe and Croydon have changed so much. I remember Kennards, C&A and Debenhams and when buses ran through Croydon town centre.
I am David Bailey's wife and he was born in October 1944 at gate burton hall. His mother was evacuated there and she had David and his twin brother Ray. We hope to visit Lincolnshire in 2015.

My parents operated a shop and a stall in Surrey Street from just after WW2 until my dad's untimely death in 1960. My mother kept the stall until 1962.
They sold yard-goods and drapery fabric but during Summer when ladies were out of the house more and not sewing as much they sold ladies cotton shift-dresses and in December when people were busy with the holidays they sold Xmas items, slippers and chocolate-covered cherries ...see more
This photo shows a view from the 'top' of Surrey Street market and my father was a trader there from just after WW2 until his untimely death in 1960.
He operated a fabric (yard-goods and drapery) shop and during the good times had a stall outside too, then in leaner times just a stall.

I attended Whitgift Middle school from 1948 to 1954. On arrival at school on my bicycle each day I saw the school as shown in this photograph
