Temple Hill Shops

A Memory of Dartford.

My Grandmother and Grandfather had the hardware shop (Frost) for a long time. I remember going
out with my Dad and my Grandfather on the paraffin round (Esso Blue and Pink) around Dartford. I was very young and found it great fun, but I will always have the smell of paraffin up my nose!

When my Grandparents retired my Aunt and Uncle took over the shop (Joyce and George Horton) until they retired. On the other side of the Square was a cycle and sweet shops which were also run by family members.

Has anyone any memories of these shops?

I remember the hardware shop on Temple Hill Square. I also remember the butchers and sweet shop, I played football for temple hill and we always met at the square every Sunday at 09.30am
Thank you for the memory of Frost. My dad Laurie Sales used to work part time at Kline's the sweat shop and newsagent and J.C.Loves the green grocers. We all used to love Perry s bakery or their cream puffs. There was the Co-op and also another deli grocery store (not sure of the name) The doctor at the square when I lived on Temple Hill was Dr. Gunnesakara from Ceylon. The Green Huts was my first school (infants) I went to the Wood Craft Folk there on Friday evenings as a teenager.
