Just to correct Richard Parkin. During our time at the Vic. between 54-58 The headmaster was Mr Sleigh (without the T) who came from Halifax each day, but the hardest (strictest) teacher was Mr Moorehouse, followed by Mr Smith the rugby and metalwork teacher. But by golly, it was a good school for future men!!

RE: RE: Victoria School For Boys

I agree with Richard Parkin, it was Sleight. Usually referred to as Edgar in my days at the school, 1959-61. Mr Cass was feared, Mr Little, although an Art teacher, was quite violent with his three slippers. PE teacher, Mr Preston was also tough. I was in same year as the Smith twins from Thornill Lees, often saw Alec playing for Southend or Colchester at Swintdon Town, where I have lived for many years. The first lady teacher I recall was a Miss Parkin.
