More about this scene

In 1209, the rebuilding of Eccleshall Castle was begun by Walter Langton, Bishop of Lichfield and Lord High Treasurer of England. During the Civil War it was garrisoned by Royalist troops, but fell in August 1643 after an eight-week siege. In 1695 Bishop Lloyd began rebuilding the castle, and it continued as a residence until the death of Bishop Lonsdale in 1867.
