Mather Street

A Memory of Failsworth.

Those head mistresses were awful & My favourite teacher was Mrs Needham in the top year, she lived on roman Road & had a son Andrew. She used to read us stories whilst we put our heads down on the desk & often fell asleep. I was ink monitor then... You had to mix powdered ink with water in an enamel jug & fill up the white porclein Ink wells in the old victorian desks we had. Was great in really cold weather coming in from the outdoor brick shed we all played in or outdoor toilets to wash our hands in hot water using the red carbolic soap to thaw out.... 😊
