Faygate Station

My Grandfather was station master at Faygate station for quite a number of years.  He and my grandma lived in the house right on the platform and they had a garden opposite where he grew vegetables and kept chickens.  His name was Frank Allen.  I have many memories of playing on the little bridge that used to be over the railway... Strathmore

My parents bought Strathmore which was a large house with 4 1/2 acres of garden just opposite the village shop on the road to Charlwood. We lived there as a family until about 1965, Peter Butterworth was a neighbour. Both my sisters Anne & Carolyn were married in Ifield Church. Friends who also lived in the village were John Reynolds and... [more]

I will never forget Rusper Road, Littlehaven

When I got married to my beautiful girl I stayed with her family for two months till we found our own flat. What a nice place the Littlehaven area is, I will never forget it for the rest of my life.

I WAS MARRIED IN ST MARY'S CHURCH IN THE YEAR 1997

I am just looking this picture of St Mary's church and tears are coming to my eyes as I remember the wonderful waiting that I had in this church. I am from Greece but as I fell in love with this lovely girl from Littlehaven I came to England in 1997 and I got married to her. But what shall I say?... [more]

I lived here

This photo shows the old post office that was run by my Aunts Alice and Edie and Uncle Harry in the 1920s. I lived next door in number 57 till I left in 1939. Jim Hayler

The Drawing Office

From 1962 to 1966 I worked in the drawing office of Horsham Urban District Council. This was in the first floor extension to the right of the picture. This was my first job and my boss was Deputy Engineer and Surveyor, John Sheldon, and the big chief was John Ridd, Engineer and Surveyor. I used to park my motor-scooter in the... [more]

The British Red Cross

I think this was in the 1960s, whilst I was working for the Flight Simulator Firm in Crawley, REDIFON LTD, part of Redifusion Ltd.
I became part of the team puttting on a charity show at this theatre for the Red Cross. It was called "MIDNIGHT MATINEE".It was a great event with Petula Clark, Arthur Haynes and many others. In the... [more]

Villages of Sussex Photographic Memories

A small village at the western edge of St Leonards Forest, on the main road and railway line between Horsham and Crawley. Local legends say that dragons and serpents inhabited the forest. Charcoal-making was a forest industry until the 1960s, and was carried out on sites within the forest. There were two brick works in the village. A road of brick... [more]

Haywards Heath Living Memories

At the western apex of Muster Green is the war memorial, a 7.5 ton Cornish granite slab, which was unveiled in 1921 (the same year as the church clock) - both ceremonies were performed by Lord Leconsfield. The memorial bears 167 names. It is interesting to compare the height of the hedge with the one in photograph H252583. This site is always a focal point each 11 Novemeber, when the fallen of...
