Burton Races - I Remember Going to Burton Races 1938 And1939
I remember going to Burton Races in 1938 and1939. I cannot remember whether they were held after that but if they were, I was there.I remember pestering the bookmakers and hanging around them, they finally gave us six or seven pencils and that worked. I also remember the Prince of Wales coming to see my grandad who had reserved a special parking place for him at the top corner of the paddock, it was the best spot and you could see over the whole course. I also attended at the gate and would not open it until someone who was with him put his hand in his pocket, it was always sixpence and then I would let them in, all smiles and a pat on the head. I would then run his parking spot and take the rope down for him. He would go and see my grandad and grandma. I have no doubt the person who paid me sixpence put his hand in his pocket again, I never got... Read more

I'm Still Owed Ten Shillings!
I remember the inside of the Baptist Chapel as I attended regularly from the age of 5 until my early teens. A Reverand Exall and a one-armed man called Mr. Chapman were in charge. On Anniversaries they used to put staging up either side of the organ and I used to like to sit right at the very top. I was promised if I passed the scripture exam they would pay me 10 shillings. I did pass but never got the money!
Sunday School
I was put on the cradle roll at about 6 months and attended every sunday school anniversary from the age of 3 - 16 !!! Always had 2 new dresses fro the anniversary.. and a perm!!
I had forgotten about Mr Chapman - thank you for the reminder!

Got married in this chapel in 1975... I had forgotten how bare the place was....but it brings back memories of how big the building was and how much it was used in the 50/60's - the room upstairs was massive, and the stage.. never quite felt safe on that but there were afew good (using the work loosley)plays were put on...
Who Was
I think he had a shop on Leicester Street. For us this was one of the best shops in Melton. We built our radio (and crystal) sets and transmitters using parts from him, and also 'Exchange and Mart' and 'Practical Wireless'.
Remember Me!!
I went to the Sarson School, my name then was Rosalin Scott. Does anyone remember me? I came from Asfordby Hill School to the Sarson. The headmistress was a Miss Penstone. I would like to hear from any one who remembers me. xx
Sage Cross Street
I lived with great aunt Elizabeth in the wonderful and strange hexagonal houses belonging to the Sage Cross chapel. I worked in Melton as a window cleaner and had a great time, sadly the powers that be let the houses and their strange history be destroyed. Hs anyone out there any memories or photos of these houses or my Great Aunt please?
