I remember Malaney's Chemists. There were large flask-type bottles with different coloured liquids in them, used as decoration around the shop. Our doctor was in Heald Green and, to save time, Mr Malaney would make-up a cough mixture, for example, to avoid a journey to the doctor's! There was a set of scales with a wicker basket to weigh babies. A few doors along from the shop was a Spirella agent who would measure ladies for corsets and other underwear! A short distance the other way was Central Garage and, just around the corner, Roseman's, greengrocers. On the other side of Gatley Road was Pollitt's, newsagents, Newton's, hardware and Davies', butchers.
