The Caribou Hotel overlooks the basin and locks, which connect the Lancaster Branch Canal with the sea. Glasson was first used as a port for ships unable to navigate the Lune to Lancaster from 1787, but the arrival of the canal in 1826, followed by the railway in 1883, increased its effectiveness.

I was born in 1949 and grew up on Victoria Terrace. The picture of Victoria Terrace has special meaning to me, upon closer inspection I noticed my mum scrubbing our front door step, this she did daily along with the strip of pavement in front of our door.
