Our Family Home

A Memory of Glevering Hall.

Our family have owned Glevering since 1936, firstly my Grandfathers cousin, W.H and then during the war, the Royal Tank Regiment commendeered the Hall and Parkland and also some of the soldiers were stationed here before the D-Day landings. After the war, my Grand father, C.W.H bought the Hall and 500 acres and it's been our family seat ever since!
In 1951 CW decided to convert tthe Hall into a grain store as he was not allowed to demolish it and it remained as such for 15 years! By then the USAF needed accommodation so he converted the west wing and stable block into apartments, which we still have plus more, now with English tenants.
41 years ago, I married and moved into the East Wing, my sister and her family returned home 30 odd years ago and our Father still lives in the main house. There are now five generations living on the Glevering Hall Estate and long may it continue!
We are the longest surviving family who have lived at Glevering. The original owners, the Archdecknes, only 3 generations, (Daughter married a Vanneck and moved to Heveningham Hall), the Heywoods and Gooches only two before moving on.
We are committed to restore the buildings, parkland and gardens to their former glory.

More memories and history to follow if requested.
