Gosforth Memories

A Memory of Gosforth.

We are the Pagett Triplets, born 11th December 1953. We lived in Clayworth Drive for a few years and then moved to Kingswood Avenue in Jesmond.
I remember the sweet shop at the bottom of Salters Road and thinking Moody's the gift shop as being very posh.
I have such fond memories of Smyths the Cake Shop which was next to Thorpes the Ironmongery shop. The cakes from there were for special occasions and they did a chocolate one with a little purple flower on top. The coolest one was a cake for my 18th birthday , it looked like Dougall from the magic Roundabout !!

Smyths was on the corner of a back lane further North than Thorpes and a bit further along than Broughs. On the opposite corner of the lane was Henderson's the Greengrocers and Moods (Not Moody's) was next door to them. Thorpe's was next to Tilley's Bakers with the Gas board on the opposite side and is still trading to this day (2019) under new ownership.
