I too was in the 1st Greenford Girls Brigade. My name is Wendy Cooper, my sister Jackie. We both played the trumpet. Entered loads of band competitions always came first, especially against 1st Bradford. Greenford Carnival. I remember Maggie, Captain Owen, Bill our band leader. Paula's dad our trumpet teacher. Baptist church every Monday, band practice every Friday. My friends Beryl Connor! Enjoyed all the camps too ... Good days
1st Greenford girls brigade ... I also remember Linda (unusual surname) on trumpet, Christine on drums, Pam (ding dong thing I can't remember the name) Karen wheeler on symbols, Paula Hayes on trumpet, naming a few!
I remember captain cotton, her daughter is Christine Cotton she played the drums. Uniform red and white for carnival days, blues for parade days and competitions. Camps I went to Ramsgate, Swansea in the tents. I was leader in my tent had to keep clean for inspection. Good days. Wendy cooper.
I think it was Linda Bartowski on trumpet. I played trumpet in the band and was due to go to Australia as one of the youngest members of the band, but unfortunately got appendicitis! I remember Pam twirling the mace; two sisters on drums who were brilliant (was one called Dorothy?); Angela was on glockenspiel by then; Lesley Bell & June Barrett on trumpet. I remember using lots of Brasso to keep the trumpet shining ready for contests, fetes and Church parades on 1st Sunday in the month, marching in the opposite direction to the boy's brigade band!
I remember Carol & Linda Bartovski. I am Shirley Rickards as was and went to Australia in 1969. I had a sister Carol who was not in the band. I remember Georgina & Richard Connelly. Pamela Strain and many others
