Early 1960's

A Memory of Heath Town.

Lived at No7 Wolverhampton Road.. opposite Sammy Hall's butchers. Mum and Dad ran a shop out front and a car repair garage at the rear. No.1 was Coopers tailors... No.3 Baileys dry cleaners and No.5 I recall was owned by Mr & Mrs Edmonds who I believe ran a Midlands Counties Ice cream business. On the other side of us was the Travellers Rest Pub. Opposite were Reynolds Fish & Chips on the corner of Heath Street. I went to Woden Road school where the headmaster was Mr Hull. Other teachers were Miss Dewhurst...Miss Rawlings...Mr Rolands..Mr Newey..to name some. Trolley buses ran the route to Wednesfield (No.59) and we were fortunate to have the bus stop right outside our door. Remember some Sundays the church band would parade around the streets...Queen visited too..can't remember the exact year but I remember dad hanging up the flags. Used to walk the blue bricks most nights with dad to catch the last post at the generel PO at Horsely Fields. Moved to Cornwall in 1967 and still here....Heath Town was barely recognisable to me when i drove through last year....
