The Crown Pub

I wonder if anyone else remembers the Crown pub, which had a television so I used to watch the showjumping while the grown-ups had a drink. The landland was a large jolly man. The garden was very well tended with lots of dahlias, I think.

RE: RE: The Crown Pub

I was just 13 years old when I moved to Broad Oak, to a school called Oak Hall, this was a school that I enjoyed for many years. And I remember making friends in Heathfield as well the local church each Sunday, the vet's in the High Stret, and the Red Cross. But the Crown pub was where I worked as a Saturday job each morning only, that was a great memory for me, even now I'm doing my own research in finding Oak Hall. Can anyone help me please?

RE: RE: The Crown Pub

Hi,
When I was a child Oak Hall was home to many boys from inner city areas including Frank Bruno, and they used to come to the youth club at the end of the high street. My father Charlie Kennett used to work as a youth leader there and tried to teach Frank Bruno how to play snooker, which I figure ultimately helped him take up boxing ha ha.
Oak Hall is still in Broad Oak but is not a home for boys any more, I guess it is in private hands now. As a teenager I used to ride racehorses for the local trainer and we used to gallop in training around the fields near the Hall. You can see it on Google Earth going North east out of Broad oak, there is a long drive on the right that eventually comes out at the bottom of the hill, Oak Hall is in the middle of that drive.

RE: RE: The Crown Pub

I don't know what year you used to go to the Crown, but the landlord sounds like it could be Con Lefort and his wife Iris. As far as I know he still helps behind the bar now and then at the Star Inn at Waldron which is run by his son.
