Nostalgic memories of Heston's local history

Share your own memories of Heston and read what others have said

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our web site to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was when the photographs in our archive were taken. From brief one-liners explaining a little bit more about the image depicted, to great, in-depth accounts of a childhood when things were rather different than today (and everything inbetween!). We've had many contributors recognising themselves or loved ones in our photographs.

Why not add your memory today and become part of our Memories Community to help others in the future delve back into their past.

I am living in Tasmania. My Father W.Moscrop was the first Headmaster of this school, which I believe was in Martindale Road. I understand it was a pilot scheme and education methods have now moved on. From what I have read here, the buildings may now house the " Hounslow Heath Junior School" I can remember very little about it except for the huge spaces inside. We lived in another part of ...see more
So enjoyed reading these memories - found the site by mistake! I used to live in the shop in Chapel Road and spent so many hours over Inwood Park playing on those parallel bars and the equipment there. Had a paddling pool there, and possibly boats. Have not been back to Hounslow since I left Bulstrode at the end of my O levels in 1960, so it's been such a revelation to read all these memories. Platts the department store ...see more

Am trying to piece together my life while in England. I was sent to some kind of institution when I was a few months old, probably in 1945/46. I believe that place was in the North of England. Then my mother picked me up and took me to Southall, and what I'm trying to remember is the name of the street in Southall that I spent my next year or so before being put into childrens homes in ...see more
We moved to 108 Lady Margaret Road in 1969. I went to St. Anselms RC school in the Green and then later Southall Grammar (Villiers); my brothers William and Martin went to St. Marks (Hounslow) and Ealing Green then to Dormers. Mum and Dad (John and Kathleen Gray) sold the house in 1994 and moved back to Ireland - I begged them not to sell it - Southall is a special place and we had THE BEST neighbours; Mary ...see more
I remember Betty Organ, mentioned by one of your contacts. She was in my class at Heston Junior School before the War.
My parents moved to Heston in 1954, I was one. My uncle owned Heston Garage, his name was Bill Biggs, he lived above the garage for a while before building and living in the Bungalow next door. My sister and I went to Norwood Green Infants & Junior School. We went swimming at Heston Baths, played in Heston Park on the swings and putting green. I went to Heston Secondary Modern School, my sister ...see more
Parish Church Heston where I was married in 1962. My son David was baptized there. I loved Heston. I remember where they had places to tie your horse and also a horse trough. My dad William Francis Ponsford worked on Heston aerodrome during WWII and yes I remember the bombs and the doodlebugs. Even today I do not like sudden loud noises. Spent a lot of time at Heston Swimming ...see more
