St John The Baptist Church

A Memory of Hillingdon.

I lived in Hillingdon from the 1960 to 1975 before moving abroad, I came back and married in this church in 1981.(it is 2018 now and i am still married). I live in Scotland now and have not returned for many years. Hillingdon being so near the airport means that it has changed beyond recognition. I loved the small parades of shops as as i went to school at Swakeleys i loved the parade at the Master Brewer (long gone i now think).

I remember the parades of shops. Always something to look at. I came up the hill one day in 1959 on my bike past the house on the left with a ships wheel in the front garden. I stopped at the green by the church where a cricket match was being played. Church bells were ringing. I thought how good it was to be there at that time. Oh so much has changed you are right, and for the worse
The Master Brewer went decades ago. Unfortunately it was demolished and nothing allowed to take its place for many years. i moved away abroad 12 years ago and the whole site was an ugly eyesore. i don't know if something has since been built.
