This row of terraced labourers` cottages lies opposite Hilton Village Hall, previously the school, and adjacent to the maze. On the left is Douglas Cottage, then the plainly named No 2, and the last house on the right is Green Cottage. Since the photograph was taken, there has been some rebuilding to the house on the right behind the fine razor-edged Triumph Renown motor-car, and a garage has been constructed at Douglas Cottage. But apart from a few new trees, little else has changed.

I lived in Hardwick, near Hilton in the late 1940's and early 50's. The travelling fish and chip man in a White Morris or Ford van used to park in the village main street. We children used to love to get our 6d (six penny)worth of chips from the back counter, wrapped in newspaper.
