Jennys Cafe

A Memory of Hounslow.

does anyone remeber jennys cafe ? It was in Martindale Road, opposite the infant and junior schools. There were a row of about 6 cottages in a terrace and jennys was on the end. There was also a hardwear shop and a drapery shop which was called Margarets, and the a sweet shop at the other end.My parents Jim and Jenny Clements owned the cafe and i worked there as well. Most of the customers were soldiers from the army barracks in Beavers Lane, but we had a few civvies too. School teachers ar lunch time as well as our regulars. Next door on the other side was Corso's cycle shop.

I don't remember Jenny's but the row of shops I remember vividly. My Aunties lived in Martindale Road. I was born in Clare Road. We moved when I was tiny but spent all my school holidays in Hounslow. Hounslow will always be my home. I haven't been back for too many years due to the loss of all my family now. When you mentioned Margaret's it quite shook me up. To me she was Auntie Margaret and I used to buy something to embroider with my Aunts money and the lovely silks. Then you had Dolly James the sweet shop. How wonderful that was. Molly was the hardware shop and of course the greengrocers on the corner.

I used to go to Hounslow west youth club in the school opposite jenny's cafe and pub. I went to grove rd school and later bulstrode which I left in 1960/61. I lived in Albion rd until I was 18 , my mother died there in 1996. Warren "bunny " stutely
