York Avenue is the one road in Jarrow (although I am from Manchester) that I could never forget, it's like a main road into Jarrow, my cousin had a house on York Avenue, it's a road you can a bus to anywhere up the north-east, and to most of the lovely beaches. Primrose

My grandmother-in-law was born in Ellison Street, - wish I could have a photograph of the street in 1894!

Jarrow Life

My grandmother was born in 1921, Kitty Irvine, New March Street, siblings Tommy, Winnie, Nora, Betty, and Clemmie. Their parents were Nellie and Tom. Cousins Margaret and Renee. Kitty married Rob Hymers then lived in Beech Street (25) and had a daughter Valerie. Has anyone got any information or photos? Margaret married Billy, they had a shop near the Viking Statue. Thank-you.

Ferry Street Jarrow

Is there anybody that can remember or knows about Ferry Street in Jarrow in the 1900? My mother-in-law was born in Jarrow and has lived here all her life. She is now 89 and suffering from Alzhimers so we are trying to put together a family tree. Her mother lived in Ferry Street in 1901 or so it says on the census for that year, and we are trying to find pictures around that time. Her mother was Rose Cowing and she married a Harry Keen, mother-in-law's name is Heir. If anybody can help we would be most grateful.

Street Party Celebrations End of War

I am looking for a photo of a street party celebrating the end of the war 1919 It was in WILLIAM BLACK STREET, JARROW (Catherine Cookson lived there once). My family are in this photo, and we would love a copy of it, can anyone help? The family name is Weir, and they lived a few doors away from Catherine Cookson when she was a child. This photo was on show in the library when they did a 'reconstuction' of Cathrine Cookson's life. Thank you.

My dad George Stephen Stonehouse was born in Jarrow, England in 1912. He left for Canada in the 1920s. The only family he ever mentioned was a sister and mother, if anyone has any memories or information please contact me.
Thanks

Childhood Memories

I lived in the bungalow behind the stone wall surmounted with a wooden fence at the extreme right of the picture. The main feature in this photo is the Lord Nelson Inn.
