Junior Art Department Attached To The Keighley Boy.S Grammar School

A Memory of Keighley.

In 1945 I attended the Junior Art Department of Keighley. Our school badge was an anagram of J.A.D. the uniform was Burgandy. This was a small school of 40 to 50 mixed pupils.
The reason I refer to this picture is, the facade of the building housed this school.I new it well.
The head master was Colonel Llewelyn.
Over the years when required to supply my educational history I have always been met by " Junior Art Department Not known"
I can assure it did exist.
The rest of the building, including the clock tower housed the Keighley Boy´s Grammar School.
We shared the Dining room with the Grammar School Boys.
quite an experience, often our general subjects teacher would lecture .us on the undesirability of mixing with these boy´s.
I hope now J.A.D. will be recognised.

The day began with General subjects,at 11.am the boys would join the Grammar school boys in their play ground, while the girls walked in a line of two´s along Skipton road to Devonshire Park.In the afternoon´s we had various Art classes. These terminated at 4.30. to the resounding noise, of the paper seller shouting "Yorkshire Evening news" under the Facade of the building.I have a picture of the class of girls, taken in Devonshire Park in 1949.( did send it to you)
Why did I remember Keighley? While in lock down I found a twenty year old box of water colours so each week I painted a different flower, posting them on Facebook.Surprise Surprise I had not forgotten what I had learnt many years ago at J.A.D.
