A Visit To My Nan Kirby

A Memory of Kingsley.

My Nan Kirby (Cozens and nee Annetts) lived in a bungalow in Woodfield.

Memories of visiting her include sitting in front of a roaring fire with a large central dining table with a soft red tablecloth overhanging it - a great place for children to hide under the table whilst the adults talked. A figure of Winston Churchill on the mantelpiece who actually looked remarkably like Nan’s husband Bill so as a child I thought it was him.

Hot chocolate and malt drinks were enjoyed, Cadburys Drinking Chocolate, Ovaltine and Milo.

Nan had a curtain hanging in place of a door to the two bedrooms and these were off limits to prying eyes of children.

Playing in her expansive garden, again whilst my parents and Nan chatted.
