Memories

A Memory of Leytonstone.

We lived at 66 lancaster road
Family of 5
Went to davis lane school
Headmaster was called mr knowels! I remember he died while i was still at the school and replaced by mr windsor
Loved playing in the fields, in the morning just before school started!
Happy memories, was sad when they tore down half of lancaster, including my childhood home
Wish i was back there, when the summers were hot and we played near the flats, riding our bikes up and down the ramps under the flats!

Although I went to Cann Hall Junior School from 1954 until 1957, I remember Davies Lane School well. Both schools, together with Mayville School, were contributors to Lake House Secondary Modern School. In the mid 1960's I was lucky enough to be appointed a Governor of my old school, Lake House. In the same grouping were Ruckholt & Tom Hood schools. At the same time I was appointed a Manger of three primary schools. A manager, in those days, was a Governor but to differentriate between secondary & junior/infant schools, a Governor was for secondary schools & a Manager (doing the same job) was for junior schools.
Getting back to the main point, Davies Lane was one of my three Managers hope. I got to know Mr. Knowles quite well & I know he enjoyed my visits. I was sorry to learn of his death.
