William Dey Urquhart, known as Willie or Bill. Policeman at Falkirk, Stirlingshire.
Born 'Calternach', Boharm, Banffshire, 4th August, 1911. Died At Falkirk, 25 January 1983.
Southfield Housr
I first came to Southfield House shortly after I was born in Falkirk in 1935 with my mother & father - Dorothy & Robert Barr. We lived there until I was 15 years. My brother Robin and sister Katie came along after me. To this day this is where I always loved to be.T he house was very big and Robin & I had lots of fun chasing each other and playing hide & seek with my father when he came home on leave from the army. I remember when there was a bunch of soldiers coming to stay at Southfield farm next door to us & Robin & I sat on the brick wall alongside the road and handed out cigarettes to them. I remember when the German planes were trying to get to the Clyde shipyard to bomb it and the British planes were chasing them and the German planes then tried to get back to Germany and were dropping their bombs anywhere. The Davidsons And The Cunninghams
My Grandparents - David C. Davidson and Isabel Cunningham were from Slamanan and came to the U.S. in 1906. David was a coal miner alongside of George Cunningham who came to the U.S. with David; my Grandmother and their first two children - Alec and David - crossed 6 months later. They settled in Linton, Indiana where they continued to mine coal. David lost his leg in a mining accident shortly after starting work. He then became a lobbyist for unionization of Indiana coal mines, and saw it come to fruition that all mines became unionized, much safer and healthier conditions prevailed from then to now. A union hall is name after him in Fort Wayne, Indiana. They went on to have 8 children - David (who died at a young age), Alec, Mary, Bill, Bob, Dick, Dorothy and Janet. Summerford [boys' Paradise]
I was born at Maryfield 25 Feb 1941, a screaming, greetin 10 pounder. The family moved to Summerford the next year. As I got older I began to realize I had landed in boys' paradise, so many things to do and so much to explore. We swam in the Forth and Clyde Canal [when the oil was thin enough], fished for pike, perch and dace in the Union Canal. We climbed huge chestnut and beech trees, ran wild on the Summerford, Greenbank and Red Hills [really they were spoil heaps from the many factories that operated and used to operate in the area]. The Red and Summerford Hills were overgrown with birch and willow where we built hideouts and fought battles [not always imaginary]. We climbed over abandoned factory roofs, into old condensing vessels and old machinery. We raided the old factory where the ropes that used to pull the horse drawn barges along the canal were stored. Castle Cary
My grandfather was a coachman at this place. He met and married my grandmother who was a tablemaid. I don't know the dates exactly, it could have been around this time. Names were Robert Nisbet Adam and Maggie macRady/Mcready. Carmuirs School
I went to Carmuirs as a primary pupil, but my mum, aunts and uncle attended as both primary and senior. My Aunt is going to be 80 this year and wonder if anyone out there might have a school photo that she would be in. Her name is Mary/May Forbes, she lived at Mansionhouse Road, Camelon, would have gone to Carmuirs from 1936 until she was age 14 in 1945. If you or you have a relative maybe at Carmuirs around this time, would love to hear.

I have happy memories as a boy playing on The Bing. Not so good memories of my paper round for Jimmy Dickson. Drinking in The Cross, The Quiot and occasionally Birrels.
