Ethel May Tantrum

My husband's Grandmother, Ethel May Tantrum, was born in Craven Arms in 1885, but by 1891 was living in Elms Cottage, Little Stretton. In 1910, she married Harold Ezard and in 1924 she died at White Birches Cottage, Little Stretton. Their son, Harold, was born in Little Stretton, but we are not sure where (possibly White Birches Cottage?) and we would love to hear from anyone who could help us find out more about the Tantrums and the Ezards of Little Stretton.

We recently visited Little Stretton, by chance, with some friends and found it a fascinating place and plan to return in the future.

RE: RE: Ethel May Tantrum

This is very interesting! I own the cottage formerly known as Elms Cottage. I had thought it was named Elms Cottage by the people who owned it before me; as they had moved there from The Elms; a large house opposite, but it appears now to have the name from at least 1880. The original name was Nettlebed Cottage, and I have now renamed it as such. I believe it was built about 1840 - 1860, as it appears on parish maps of this period, but not on the 1820 one. The cottage is now much different than originally, when it was a one up one down. In the 1960's it was extended, and a metre put into the upstairs level. I have knocked the two rather pokey little downstairs rooms into one. There was at one time an outside toilet, this has long gone, and the amount of land belonging to the property has become smaller. it would be interesting to know exactly when it was renamed Elms Cottage. should you have any more information on this subject I would be pleased to hear from you.
