Steve Hegarty On Llanrumney

A Memory of Llanrumney.

I moved to sedgemoor road in 1958 and stayed there or nearby until 1992 before moving to sully, my absolute best memories were made living in that street. as boys we used to play hoops flicking a byciycle tyre over the lamposts . in the summer evenings all us kids played mob ,kerb ball until it was dark, or our mothers called us in. we also made bogies , basicly a plank of wood with pram wheels attached. we would drag these up counterbury hill, behind our street, and at great speed attempt to turn into our street at the bottom of the hill mostly crashing because brakes were far to technical to fit. our niehbours were the morrises the waldens the bowdens and the campseses to name a few. also twice ayear two families the decruze and the spuriers organised a coach trip to barry island that was the ultimate time for me . I would be at my gate bucket and spade at the ready 7am the coach was not due until 9am but hey .. there was no way I would miss it . when we got to barry island you could smell a mixture of the salty sea, fish and chips also doughnuts and blasting out love me do by the beatles, on the way home we would sing one man went to mow , and the crab I caught would usually expire a couple of days later, poor thing . oh happy days.
