My Memories of Llanwonno
We would walk over the mountain, over what we called the racecourse into the forestry from Heath Terrace, Ynyshir to LLanwonno, the best part, I suppose, 4/5 miles walking. Usually on a Sunday, us boys together. I was always fascinated by a row of houses/cottages standing next to the church. The houses had been abandoned and left empty. One day the same properties had been demolished. I wondered who lived in that row of homes in the middle of nowhere? Because LLanwonno was in the middle of nowhere, a church and the pub - that's your lot. I was even too young for a refreshing pint - but us boys were happy when we arrived at Llanwonno and promptly turned around and returned home to Ynyshir. Long walks and great memories of my youth.

Search Light And ac ac Gun in The Avenue, Pontygwaith
I remember this because my grandfather was in the Home Guard. I lived in No 8 Margaret Street, anyone one that knows me please get in touch.
Cresci's
Highlight of visiting grandparens every summer was the frequent visit to Cresci's Cafe to buy a quarter of sweets in paper cones and a cornet of the best icecream every made!! Usually served by Mary Cresci but I can still remember Mother Cresci as well, also Tommy, who was a contemporary of my mother, Beth Jones, Twyncelyn.
What a shame it closed down - it was Ynysybwl to me.
Same story all over the valleys. They held the community together - with the pit.

Does anyone know of the whereabouts of any of the Owen family of 33, Heol-Y-Plwyf? (Cowboy's kids.) Belinda, Brenda, Rosemary, Nannete, Wendy and Myrna?
My Memories
I was brought up by my grandparents (Man and Dad) Williams practically from birth. I thought they were my mother and father and we lived at 22 Other Street, with my brothers and sisters who of course were not - they were my aunts and uncles. Granny Fortte lived in the parlour (front room). I started school at three and along with the rest of the family (I remember Freddie) used to walk to school every day. We walked through the woods past the Bwllch fields up into the top part of the village till we reached school. I think my grandmother died when I was about 12 and somehow, some member of the family took me from the loving home that I knew to London and deposited me to live with two people who I did not know but supposedly were my mother, father and brother. Life was not easy after that. However, the sons and daughters of the family went by names... Read more
Holidays in Penrhiwceiber
I was born 1947 in 64 Church St Penrhiwceiber. My sister and I used to spend the best part of the summer holidays there with grandfather Albert Charles Webb and Aunt Hilda Thomas. Is there any one who knows when Albert Charles moved from Bristol to S Wales? I am researching the family tree and this is one piece of information I am unable to find! The house is still owned by a family member.
Penrhiwceiber
I am helping trace my brother-in-law's family tree and we have found his 2nd cousins were born in Penrhiwceiber. We are especially interested in George Henry Hall born 1881. We have found him living at 20 Station Terrace, Penrhiwceiber in the 1911 census with his wife Margaret and listed as a Coal Miner Hewer. We gather George was elected to Parliament in 1922. Does anyone have any information or can anyone point us in the right direction when we visit the area? Many thanks, Lynda
