Bronze Street Collyhurst

A Memory of Collyhurst.

Hi everyone,
I went to St Pat's 1956 -1962 and lived at 17 Bronze Street. I remember Brian Kidd going to our school. We had a good football team, I think the headmaster was Mr Cassidy who played for United in the 1940s.

I remember playing in Queens Park and the Whit Walks especially, setting off from St Pat's, it was one of the few times we got new clothes!

Does anyone remember the Karneys who were an Irish family who lived in Bronze Street? Also the Kytes? I think Mr Kyte was a rag and bone man. I remember having a ride on his horse and cart with one of his sons, Billy I think, he kept the horse in a stable behind the herbalists on Rochdale Road.

I remember the Martin family who lived next door, they had three children, Jimmy, Sandra, and Ethel, my dad (Paddy Flynn) used to go next door to watch the cup final as we did not have a telly.

Reading all the comments on this site has brought back many memories of childhood, I remember being sad at moving to Blackley in 1962 and being one of the last families to move out when the demolitions started... Happy days.

Hi Tony. Did you know Maureen Quigley who used to live near the Osborne Pub which is now closed. regards Alan
Hi Anthony. I lived in Dalton St, but had a girlfriend in Bronze St, Lorraine Power. My brother Malcolm used to go out with Ethel Martin. I remember Danny Kierney, and Obber Houghton, whose Dad was a sergeant in the army I think. We used to play a lot in the large 3 storey Yaffe building in Bronze St. Great times in the late 50s early 60s before moving to Darn Hill in Heywood in late 61.
