The building on the left became an amusement arcade in the early 1950s and then a dental surgery. Later it was demolished and replaced by a new building of flats and a new HQ related to Cowes week which was opened by Prince Philip in 2005.

I was born in 1946, from 1950 to 1965 we stayed at gurnard for two weeks hols. Near the luck were a polish couple , I think he was with the polish air force, they made the best ice cream in the world . When the Queen Elizabeth or Queen Mary entered Southampton everyone went to the beach to watch , the waves these ships created were huge. Does anyone know if the polish couple had children and if so do they live on the island ?? Many thanks. Warren stutely
