East Ham Town Hall

A Memory of East Ham.

Happy hours with my friend Ella Hyde whose father was caretaker in the Town Hall. Hiding in the gallery to watch the ballroom dances. We both swam for East Ham swimming club for many years. The big pool was also for dancing, must have been a floor to pull over, the little pool used for school swimming. Lovely smell of buttered toast which we could buy after swimming. I loved going to the library there each week with mum and sisters. A really beautiful building. Anita

HELLO ANITA WHAT MEMORIES I WAS A LIFE GUARD THERE MR HYDE WAS MY BOSS AS FOR THE BIG POOL THAT FLOOR WAS HARD WORK IT HAD TO BE STACK THE RIGHT WAY SO WE COULD PUT IT DONE AGAIN AND THE TOAST WAS GREAT
I usto live in Katherine rd,and went to several dances at the town hall. Billy Cotton and his band Lita Rosa,Dennis Lotus and Dicky Valentine.
I loved the Winter Hall as it was called for the dancing, and yes, all the big bands were there. I also swam for the borough.. The buttered toast was a treat after a long training session. The sauna was a very special indulgence. Big Fluffy towels and lazing in the big wicker chairs.
Good Afternoon All,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me. I recently acquired three swimming medals for East Ham Youth & Sports Rec Association.

They are under the name of a J.Rushbrook and all are dated 15th September 1956.

If anyone does have any information, please do contact me.
