That Was The Year 1949
A Memory of Greengates.
I lived on Rimswell Holt in 1949 my first school was at Brookfield on Redcar Road.
I always remember Greengates old picture house when we used to pay a tanner for Saturday matinee.
My first job was at Fishers old mill up in Idle.
I still think of old times when I used to go into Greengates woods playing cowboys, I was only a kid, not that I do it now.
My dad was a postman and my mam she was always busy getting me off to school, not that I stopped there, I was always sneaking out, that's when I was at Greengates School. I didn't like Mr. Stead. I used to go into Glovers shop a lot and I got a job as a paper boy.
I don't live in Bradford now, I'm in the West Midlands, by heck I do miss Bradford. My son is still in Bradford, he tells me to live with him.
My memories are still with me, the TOP TWENTY CLUB in Idle, all the fun we used to have.
All the best to Greengates people.

Always loved living in Greengates such a nice village. Sure has changed . Gone is Glover’s and the National Provincial Bank. Think there was also a clothing store there as well.
Further down was the Post Office and my Doctor had a surgery next to it besides his main surgery in Calverly.
Spent many an hour at the Greengates Cinema. It sure was a reasonable price to go there. Got to see 2 movies as well.
I seemed to change jobs a lot. Worked at Garnett’s Mill ,Martins Cleaners and then Hollybrook Mills. That was the very best Mill and the working conditions were great.
Doubt many folks I knew are around anymore.
Last time I was in Greengates was in 2014.
I have very happy memories of living there.
