Holly Mount Farm Smalley Part Of Shipley Estate

A Memory of Smalley.

From the late 1800's my Great Grandfather Thomas Brown ran a butchers shop in Heanor. He also farmed Holly Mount up until around 1920. My mother remembers seeing in an old memory box an Invitation to the coming of age party of one of the Miller Mundy family at Shipley Hall. This would seem to fit in with the party held for Godfrey Miller Mundy in 1906. My father George Brown was born at Holly Mount in 1907. Sometime around the 1920's my Grandfather moved everything down to Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire where he farmed Chalford Oaks until his death in 1953. I was born there in 1954. Interesting that there are monkey puzzle tree's in the gardens of both Holy Mount and Chalford Oaks.
