St. Anne's took boys until age ten or so, and in the mid 1940s I was one of those. My mother had been a teacher at the local school where we lived but was not impressed with the school and considered the headmaster a bad character, so she sent me to St. Anne's. I attended St Anne's from 1960 right up until I left in 1974. I moved from Coulsdon to West Hill, Sanderstead with my family the year I passed my 11+ exam, 1967. My favourite subjects were PE, Cookery and Speech and Drama. Anyone remember Sister Mary Dorothy, Sister Mary Jude and Miss Doherty? I loved St Anne's. Great theatre, music and games, an all-round education. I'll always think that I got a great education there and I'm sad it's been pulled down. I wish I could find some of my class mates; Wendy Dew is in Perth, Australia but she's the only one I've found. I'd love to hear from Pat Balderston. I live near San Francisco now and only go back to the UK occasionally but I'd love to hear from ...see more
I attended St. Annes Junior School. My aunt, Nancy Bailey was the Senior Maths Mistress in the Senior School. I hated maths, much to her disgust. I enjoyed english, sport. I left early and went to St.Joseph's Convent in Redhill when my parents moved from Thornton Heath.
