The Bull And My Dad, Arthur Shrimpton.

A Memory of Snodland.

My life has always been based around The Bull as I was born there in 1965 and stayed there till September 1982 as my dad was the landlord. We left there when he sadly passed away, but still today I have people tell me about their memories of him and how The Bull has never been the same since the day we left. Nearly all our old regulars still use The Bull and every time I go in there I always get a great warm welcome from them all. The name Arthur Shrimpton is always mentioned fondley by them, guys like Walshie Joyboy Jock, Mick Mac Shane, Micky Knight, Nicky and Shirley, Derek and Dave Joyce and that's just to name a few. I don't think my dad could have ever known just how much he was loved and respected by so many people. I think I can say with total honesty that for myself and my brothers, Mark and Colin our hearts our lives and memories will always be of The Bull and mainly our dad Arthur Shrimpton, who certainly made his mark on Snodland. So many great people there, who may I add still ask like ourselves, why have the town council still not named one of the roads there after our dad as when the request was put to them they accepted gladly? So I ask you if you can help in anyway for this to happen, please do and if anyone out there can add any of your own memories of times spent in The Bull when our dad was landlord, we would love to read and enjoy them along with our own.

Hi Diane, not sure if I got this right but I do remember your dad Arthur, but what I remember if I got this right, I used to hang about with one of your brothers or could it have been a step brother i'm not sure it's been soooo long ago. I'm sorry if I got the wrong info. kevin parris
I lived in Snodland from about 1962 until 1979, when I married and moved away. We initially had the shop at the top of Oxford Street. I was at school with Mark Shrimpton, and my brother Phil had his wedding reception to Marie Kirkby at the Bull in about 1970. I remember my brothers using the pub a fair bit!
I remember the bull pub , your brother mark and Colin, and the gleaming pale blue jaguar XJ 6.
All the travellers who used your pub but Diane Snodland was a magical place in the 60s .
Every one was a worker and it was a safe place to grow up you said about naming a close or road after your father .Which would be nice I hope your wish comes true.
And remember you can take the person out of Snodland but never Snodland out of the person. Frank MacDonald
