Christmas Day On West Park

A Memory of Long Eaton.

I was born the third of four children in Breaston. Our Christmas's were spent with my Mum's sister's family consisting of Aunty, Uncle/god father and a male cousin 7 months younger than me who I mercilessly tormented throughout our childhood. It was Christmas day around 1970 and unusually, snow lay on the ground, the noise levels from our excitement in the house must have been very loud, Mum and Aunty wanted us from under their feet while they prepared the Christmas lunch, so Uncle took us for a 'walk'. We ended up walking all the way to West Park in the snow, complaining all the way there and all the way back, any other time we'd have been happy to have gone there as it was a favourite place, but today we wanted to stay in the warm and play with out presents.
