This was the scene of a devastating lightning strike on 13 December 1779. The east front of the chancel was demolished (perhaps explain- ing the new roof tiles on the right) and the north side of the tower was split almost to the ground. 'In short a sight shocking to all beholders' (Manaton Parish Register).

I worked in a racing stables in Manaton, we used to exercise up on the moor. 3 other girls were there too and it was great fun. The yard moved to Somerset after and I went with it, wonderful days. Hi Sam, Hi Brian.
