More about this scene

A tiny locomotive heads over Monsal Viaduct towards Bakewell - probably heading for the engine shed at Rowsley. This was the Midland Railway main line from London St Pancras to Manchester Central. When it was opened, the company advertised this area as 'Little Switzerland'. The line closed north of Matlock and south of Chinley in 1968. Central station is now Manchester's G-Mex Centre.
