There were two swimming pools in New Brighton. The Harrison Drive Baths were opened in 1932 by Lord Derby, and were hence known as the Derby Baths. The New Brighton Swimming Pool opened in 1934 and became very popular with visitors. At the time of its construction, it was thought to be the largest bathing pool in the world, accommodating 2,000 bathers and 10,000 spectators.
