Where I Grew Up....

A Memory of Newlands Corner.

- catching the Tillingbourne Valley Bus bus at the top of Newlands Corner to go to school in Shere and afterwards in Peaslake as a child
- as a child being terrified and frozen when taken by my older sister sledging down the hill in the snow (which came every winter - and lasted forever - in those days)
- an unpaved car park - with very few cars
- riding across Newlands Corner towards St Martha's
- riding down Water Lane
- reminders of WWll defences
- excessive amount of lorries which travelled over Newlands Corner until the M25 was built
- a buried WWll bomb being discovered within 50 yards of my home in the mid 1960's
- the wonderful peace and quiet after dawn at 4.00 am in the morning in the middle of the summer, when absolutely nobody else is around and there was no traffic.
