St Nicholas's church stands on its own island surrounded by streets. St Nicholas was the patron saint of fishermen; much of the town's early wealth was based on its many fish ponds When the king was in the area, the town was obliged to supply his court with fresh fish.

James Holt was my gg grandfather on my mother's side, and worked as Head Gamekeeper for the Duke of Sutherland from 1875. He died in 1899. My grandfather, Ernest Holt, James's grandson, lived with them when he was a boy, attended Rosemount School, and named his own home (now sadly demolished) in Banstead, Surrey, after Chetwynd. I would love to know if anyone knows anything about the Holts. Thankyou very much.
