I lived on Beckbridge Estate in the very last prefab the communal hut was at the bottom of our garden. We were the last family to leave the estate when the prefabs were bulldozed. We went to live in Altofts.
Rex Greens opposite the Union fixed gear carrier bike ( or butcher bike) hale rain or shine start at Norwood Street zig zag across Castleford Road,Snydale Road, The Grove Dalefeild area and then through Woodhouse Estate finishing at Kingsway. 2s 6p/week
I remember the fields and Beckbridge prefabs. I and my sister attended the infants school , set back from Castleford road sadly no more except the walls remain .Swam in the old Baths where asda, s store now stands.I played in the fields where Beckbridge green estate is now built upon .Walked many times down to the beck and scramble up to the top of the disused railway embackment the old bridge still ...see more
Hi, I am Linda Atkinson, nee Halford, I was brought up on the Gypsy Lane estate, attending Woodhouse Junior school and remember the carnivals/parades held on the village green. My best friends were Nancy and Maria Churms, and Lynne Ramsey. A whole gang of us used to play out on the Green or in the street, kick can, rounders, whip and top, hide and seek, or just skipping.
