Born And Bred In North Harrow

A Memory of North Harrow.

I lived in The Ridgeway, schooled at Longfield in Sunflower House , motto 'Cheerfulness' which has endured with me as my favourite flower, I grow monsters and matches the attitude Itry to have still! Miss Perks was the juniors head mistress, Mr Brignall the seniors. I saw another post about North Harrow, so many shops and yes there was a Home and Colonial in the 60s, and Pay and Take, and Noric, and Savilles Chemist, the launderettes, and my mum's cousin and his wife had Flair hairdressers. They were opposite The Headstone pub, which used to have a little off sales shop near the railway bridge and where I socialised, and worked for a while to fund my first holiday abroad in the early 80s. I remember Safeway opening, a radical new way to shop, the whole family would go! I had a great time at Pinner Grammar with friends from Longfield until 1978. It's a different place now, but you can still see remnants of the way it used to be 'back in the day!

Hi. I lived in North Harrow over 20 years ago. At the head of that photo is Clock Tower House. My aunt and uncle lived on the top floor of that building for nearly 30 years, before moving back to Ireland. I have fond memories of living in North Harrow. There was a pub called Ned Hylands just around the corner, but it's closed for a couple of years now...
