St Andrews School

A Memory of North Harrow.

I went to this school in 1954 when I was four and living in a large house on Pinner Road, backing onto the railway, shortly before the older terraced houses.

I was first in the kindergarten in North Harrow, where we had mattresses for an afternoon nap, and then went to the junior school in Pinner View, eventually returning to the senior school before going on to John Lyon. I loved the school, although I was often in trouble, and Miss Roberts ran a tight though loving ship.

Whilst I was a pupil we moved to Village Way and later toThe Ridgeway in Ruislip Manor. I had piano tuition and passed a number of exams and also joined the Cubs, although this was disbanded in due course.

My father was one of the many Americans at the South Ruislip base, and I was an oddity as the only America child enrolled and was sometimes collected by my English mother in a huge Chevrolet, one of the few mothers to drive in those days.

I now have no reason to visit the area but have many happy memories of the school.
