Happy Childhood Days

A Memory of Norton.

We went at least couple of times to Mountfield Caravan Park back in the early/mid 60s. I remember the distinctive and exciting smells in the site shop. We used to walk down to Colwell Bay with a picnic and spend the day on the beach. When the orange Townsend car ferry went out we would wait for the wash to come in, and jump over the waves. We would get Hubbly Bubbly from the beach kiosk - there were so many colours and flavours to choose from. Sometimes we would walk back via Golden Hill Fort where there was always a cacophony of crickets chirping away. In a neighbouring caravan one year was a gorgeous golden retriever called Goldie. 55-Odd years on I still have a photograph of my brother and me sitting next to him (or her).
