Reflections Of My Life

A Memory of Oakdale.

I was born in Argoed Blackwood in a condemned house by candlelight in 1950
We moved to 26 Underwood road Oakdale when I was still quite young. I can still remember so much from all those years ago. The Bic. Browns, Parry, Yem Woods and other families We would play on the green and climb the oak trees. Collect old bread and take to the farm at the bottom of the road and get one penny. Steal pears from the farm behind Underwood. Dam up the stream that ran behind our street and then break the dam once it was full and cause mayhem when water and mud rushed down the road towards high tree rise an the fire brigade would be called out. There was a small hill behind where we lived and we used to roll old tyres to owthe top then let them go until one rolled into the back door of Kitty Bics house and she went balistic. Oh the joys of youth and the mischief we got up to.
I remember my first day at infants school my father leading me into the school wearing his thick overcoat. Miss Pugh was one of my teachers . Looking back the school was futuristic looking and the last time I visted the area it was gone and a housing state now stands there. There was a beautiful meadow up towards what we called Bennys, that too is also gone and replaced by a housing eastate.
I starting writing about mt life not long ago and it might easily turn into a book. I've named it Reflections of my life and it will be packed with Sad ,happy and horrific things which I endured in my early years and when we moved to Neath in September 1962 a day I will never forget.
I could write so much more here but will leave it at that for now.
Hopefully it is not too late to meet up again with pals from the past.

Warm greetings to all from Oakdale

Gian
