More about this scene

This view in Anthony Salvin's towering Great Hall was taken just before the last Earl Manvers, the sixth earl, died in 1955. The hall is on the first floor and three storeys high: a truly monumental space, here still furnished as the Manvers' family home. The grand double-flight staircases can be seen through the arcades with galleries overlooking the hall.
