Houghton, The Mill 1899

More about this scene
A mill has stood on this site for over a thousand years. It was owned by the Benedictine monks at nearby Ramsey Abbey, whom the local farmers tended to regard as crooks. The Abbey was landlord to the local farmers, and had the power to insist they brought their grain here to be milled - they were fined if they didn't! The present brick and timber mill with tarred weatherboard cladding dates back to the 17th century.
