Halcyon Days
I remember the excitement of seeing the hovercraft as a child. We used to spend many days on the beach at Penarth usually at the Pier end but when the Hovercraft visited we of course congregated at what we called the 'landing stage' end near the yacht club.
The photo shows a boat in the background and I remember a service to Flat Holme run by a Mr Noel or Knowle. We called it 'Knowles boat'. For many years I craved a journey to Flat Holme on Knowles boat but never made it. I eventually got there a few years ago so it only took me 40 years. it was well worth it though.
Does anyone remember Knowles Boat and if so what do you know of the subject?

RE: RE: Halcyon Days
Hi Michael Evans, I remember the hovercraft as I lived in Penarth in the 1960s, what an amazing machine it was, very noisy but yet exciting. I attended Albert Junior School and later Penarth County Secondary, I still have school photos of these. Did you go to any of these schools? As my dad used to have a telescope we had many evenings looking at the ships making their way up the Bristol Channel, and the colours of the vessels made the area interesting, as he was a member of the Ship Recognition Corps. As you say, these were special days. As I celebrate my 58th birthday next month I look back on a different era, time seemed to have slipped away. I would love to hear from you if you have any other memories about this time. Kind Regards. Ken Russell Everitt.
