The Savoy Cinema
My memories of the Savoy are of learning to ride a 2 wheeler bike in front on the wide pavement and of everybody dancing there when the war was over. Then of going to the cinema on Saturday mornings when Mr Scroggins used to keep all the children in order. They are happy memories.

RE: RE: The Savoy Cinema
My memories of the Savoy are from when it was a bingo hall and when I was very little (around 5) as my nanna and mum used to work there, they used to take me in before they opened the building up to every day folk. I used to stand at the back of the main room or sit in the seats there and wait for them to finish work. I don't remember them knocking it down but I can remember them building the retirement flats that are on the land now. My nanna and mum still talk about some of the things that happened in the Savoy all those years ago.

RE: RE: The Savoy Cinema
I used to go to the Savoy to see the Saturday matinees from 1958/60 - Batman, Flash Gordon, Mighty Mouse. We called the usher Buttons (he was a tyrant). I dated his granddaughter (Janice) several years later. I attended Bredbury County Primary School at the top of Barrack Hill and we had a teacher called Mr. Hibbert - any relation? My mother Peggy lived in the flats above Romiley Precinct.
