More about this scene

This view looks east from Bridge Street, past the Market House and along into Bell Hill. On the right is the former Coffee Tavern in a building dated 1710, and beyond that the side roof of The Woolpack, its building dated 1714. Beyond the approaching car, is part of the tall gable wall of the Stanley Works, which was still functioning as a boot and shoe factory in the1950s.

A Selection of Memories from Rothwell

For many years now, we've been inviting visitors to our website to add their own memories to share their experiences of life as it was, prompted by the photographs in our archive. Here are some from Rothwell

Sparked a Memory for you?

If this has sparked a memory, why not share it here?

I visited the Bluebell Inn and spent only a modest amount, however I left half a crown as a tip because of a very nice waitress. I left and had walked about two blocks, when the lady chased me down to thank me. I was quite surprised at this, but managed to remain calm and smiled graciously. Told her that if I came again to the Bluebell, I would surely look her up.
