Happy Days

A Memory of Rubery.

I lived in Cockhill Lane in the tall flats from 1958 till 1972. Went to Colmers Farm nursery and school. I attended St Chad's church and went to the Brownie pack. I remember me and my friend Ruth coming out of Brownies going to the Elite Chip shop and getting batter bits then walking home through the gully next to the hairdressers.....up into Callowbrook and Deelands then to our block which was Rushmore House. The butchers was Palethorpes and my first love and his brother worked there.....I was always keen to fetch the meat for my mom ha ha. I had many many hours of playing in the park, up the gigantic metal slide, behind the church and going up onto beacon Hill. I also remember going over the disused quarry to play. Life was easier then for playing out we just went out for the day and nobody worried about all the bad things that happen nowadays....we looked after each other, we took risks, no health n safety rules, we had fun good old fashioned fun. I remember the flyover being built. Many many happy memories.
My name then was Christine Leake. Wonder if anyone on here will remember me. I lived in flat 2 Rushmore House.
